Come out and test your speed, strength, and endurance at this year’s GORE-TEX® Wasatch Ski Mountaineering Race at the OWM All Mountain Demo.  The race will support the US Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA).  The USSMA sanctions and governs competitive ski mountaineering racing in the US and promotes and fosters recreational ski mountaineering through access, resources, education, and community.

The race is open to anyone over 18 and of any ability from first time racers who just want to see what ski mountaineering racing is all about to seasoned veterans.  Any randonnée, telemark, or split-board gear is allowed.  Racers must have skins for the ascents, not snowshoes or walking.

The race will start at 2:00 PM at the base of Solitude at the All Mountain Demo area.  The race will feature short and long course options and will last approximately 1 hour.

The cost for the race is $10

For more details see the Event page of the USSMA website.

Clinics start today

Clinic #1: Introductory Clinic. First clinic before next week’s race, Tuesday 12/15. This clinic will be an introductory clinic to skimo racing. Plan to meet around 6pm at the bottom of the Great Western Lift. If you are interested, respond to the Facebook event by Monday, 12/14 at noon.

Technical skills clinics will be offered after holidays.

And if you’re really looking to hone you’re skills, stop by skimo.co tonight at 6 where Nina Silitch will be talking about the newly formed Park City Ski Mountaineering team.

If you haven’t signed the race waiver yet, the link is below. (Your fingers will thank you for doing this in comfort of your home and not outside before a race).

Hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy the snow and see you tonight!

Brighton Uphill Policy

Please remember when skinning at Brighton that the red/yellow/green light on the Brighton Center has the final say in uphill traffic. There were issues on Friday where the light and website were not in sync. The light was red and there was a lot of uphill traffic. Brighton has asked us to remind all people that in order to keep this privilege, it must be followed.  The Brighton Uphill Policy is posted at: http://www.brightonresort.com/faq-cat/uphill-travel-policy/

Brighton will turn off and on their red light depending on what work is being done on the hill. There is never a set time frame for switching it back to green. Sometimes the web site is the last to be changed. If you come in the parking lot and the light is red that is the final say. Safety is our main focus for all patrons.

Please remember that we lost our privilege to climb at Snowbird due to a few ‘bad apples’. Let’s not lose our privilege at Brighton also.

3rd Wasatch Skimo Series race today

The 3rd Wasatch Skimo Series race is tomorrow (Tuesday). As always, we will start at 7PM, headlamp and helmet are required, and you must park at the church. We will meet at the bottom of Great Western to check in. The race will start at the bottom of the Great Western lift so please be at the bottom of the lift at 6:55. It will be cold so we will be starting on time so that people do not have to get cold waiting. Allow plenty of time for canyon traffic and please carpool. Molly Greens is open so awards/social will be at Molly’s.

If you have not yet signed a waiver or paid your membership, please do so prior to tomorrow at http://utahskimo.org/memberships/
