Wasatch Women’s Ski Mountaineering Meet Up

Skimo for fun, fitness and with friends

WHEN: Every Thursday of the winter 2014-2015 season at 6:30pm beginning December 11th.
Please be ready to go with your gear on at 6:30pm. If you’re running late the group will usually head over to Great Western and begin from there. Head up the hill to find us. The group will usually break into different abilities/fitness levels.
WHERE: Brighton Ski Resort.  Meet at the big sign near the base of Milly.  Please park by the Brighton church (just before Milly as you drive around the circle).
WHAT TO BRING: Helmet and headlamp and whatever backcountry/skimo equipment you have (tele, split board, AT set up with skins). Warm clothing. You DO NOT need shovel, beacon or probe (we will be in bounds).

These are informal meet ups. Female members of Utah Ski Mountaineering  with different experience in the sport will usually be there to lead the group up the safest and preferred routes. Plan to be out on the hill until about 8pm– remember you can turn around and be done whenever you need.
For those that are interested, last year a few ladies would grab a drink at Molly Greens or Silver Fork lodge after the workout. We also hope to have equipment for ladies to demo (more on that to come)

We encourage all of you to attend the Tuesday night Wasatch Ski Mountaineering Series and give racing a go. Also, consider becoming a member of Utah Ski Mountaineering a newly formed non-profit organization that aims to advance the sport of ski mountaineering in Utah. The organization website has other useful information including resort uphill polices, ski mountaineering techniques and a gear swap page.

2nd Logan Citizen’s Series Recap

DSC06448

So awesome to see the locals turn out last night for our second Logan-area Citizen’s series race! Many thanks to Beaver Mountain Ski Area “Official” for generously hosting.

DSC06473 edit

The course was a short loop up and down the Little Beav lift, about 350′ vertical… with a ‘run laps until you drop (or hit 45 minutes)’ format. David and Mae took the top spots with 5 and 3 laps, respectively, and there was plenty of great schwag for everyone to walk away happy.

We’re just getting started – look for a more frequent series of races next season!
